Description:
Communications & Development Coordinator
ORGANIZATION: Bleeding Disorders Alliance Illinois (www.bdai.org)
LOCATION: 210 S. DesPlaines St., Chicago, IL 60604 60661-5500
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
START DATE: As Soon As Possible

BACKGROUND SUMMARY
The Bleeding Disorders Alliance Illinois (BDAI) exists to improve the quality of life for persons affected by inherited bleeding disorders. BDAI has been delivering on this mission since 1949 when we were founded by a group of concerned parents whose children were living with hemophilia. BDAI provides and promotes advocacy, consumer services, education and research. We work collaboratively with all bleeding disorder providers to support the broad range of needs of people with bleeding disorders.

The needs of our community are vast. Each year, we develop comprehensive educational programs helping individuals and families cope with the many challenges and frustrations they face living with hemophilia or other bleeding disorders and the accompanying complications. BDAI has also proven consistently to be a strong advocacy center for the Illinois bleeding disorder community. We stay on top of the issues and have a good track record of working as collaborators and fair arbitrators of solutions that benefit all involved.
Due to the rarity of bleeding disorders, few of our families are prepared to face the medical, psychological and financial challenges ahead of them. We work each day to help our families overcome these issues and live the quality of life which is achievable today because of the availability of effective and safe products for treatment.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Medical advances for treating bleeding disorders have advanced exponentially over the past 60 years. Biologically-produced, injectable treatments allow children and adults with bleeding disorders to live full productive lives. Our strategic direction is three-fold.

First, we have identified target populations (young families, transitioning teens, women and men) and established educational objectives for each of these sub-groups. Second, we are developing and implementing empowerment models to engage our population in effective community advocacy strategies to insure that access to care and treatment modalities continue to be available. And finally, we are exploring innovative ways to address the rural versus urban issues with which we are faced as a statewide organization. The Communications & Development Coordinator will be provided the opportunity to provide significant impact in developing strategies to address these key organizational objectives.
